Susceptibility to slides in “Ciudad Alfaro” of Canton Montecristi

Abstract

The urban area “City Alfaro” of the canton Montecristi has relevant physical-geographical characteristics which give rise to the occurrence of the phenomenon of landslides in several sectors of the canton which have caused concern since it has a wide over the years.It is for this reason that the next job is to determine the level of susceptibility to landslides, talking into account the factors and triggers in the study area using geographical information systems as a tool for spatial analysis, in addition to the information collected and updated information on the subject of research; for the determination of levels of susceptibility were taken into account factors of great importance such as vegetation cover, soil types among other which are instigating factors within a slide. For this soil maps were developed, isotherms, vegetation cover, precipitation, climate of the area under investigation. In addition, the description of the methodology that was used to obtain the final map index of susceptibility to landslides in Alfaro in the Canton of Montecristi. The above mentioned final map was made with a panoramic view of the area where you can clearly observe the index of susceptibility to landslides which has the area of study, which gives a result of mid to high – level index of susceptibility within the 97% of the area.
