Abstract

Climate change is a significant and permanent variation of global weather patterns, its consequences are irreversible if the pertinent actions are not taken. Latin America is a region rich in biodiversity, protected areas and with an electrical matrix with renewable sources. However, it is also a region that is highly vulnerable to climate change, with a strong dependence on agriculture and tourism, large areas prone to flooding, and strong socio-economic challenges. Climate change has direct and indirect impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity; each environment and its biota respond specifically to its influence. Latin America is a highly biodiverse region with an extraordinary mosaic of ecosystems, both terrestrial and marine, which is why this paper aims to carry out a bibliographic review of climate change and its effect on biodiversity.
