Abstract

Creative writing is a pedagogical tool that fosters personal expression and the development of narrative skills. In the university context, students often face difficulties in producing narrative texts, which affects their written communication abilities. This study aimed to promote the production of narrative texts among first-cycle university students through free writing practices that stimulate their creativity. Methodologically, a qualitative-descriptive approach was applied with a non-probabilistic sample of 69 students, using creative writing practices to evaluate their effectiveness in improving textual production in the subject of Reading and Writing Academic Texts. The results showed a significant evolution in the coherence, cohesion, and originality of the participants' texts. The comparison between initial and final texts demonstrated an increase from 40% to 80% in coherence and from 38% to 85% in creativity. It was concluded that 90% of the students exhibited greater confidence in writing, minimizing initial blocks and increasing narrative fluency. This study contributes to understanding the role of creativity in teaching writing and proposes a more dynamic learning approach in the university setting.
