Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the impact of burnout syndrome on the quality of work life of faculty members in humanities programs at a private higher education institution in Guayaquil. A quantitative, descriptive-correlational approach was used for this study. Two validated questionnaires were administered to measure the variables established in the objectives: the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) to identify and categorize the risk levels of the syndrome in its dimensions of exhaustion, depersonalization, and accomplishment; and the CVT-Gohisalo, a short version with 31 items. Data analysis was performed using descriptive e inferential statistics, employing frequency tables and percentages to identify risk levels and the interrelationship between the dimensions of both questionnaires. The results confirmed a significant inverse relationship between the variables, demonstrating that a sense of professional achievement is the primary driver of faculty well-being. These findings indicate a latent risk that directly affects motivation and perceptions of the meaning of professional practice. This study contributes to raising awareness of burnout syndrome in educational settings and its physical and psychological impact on teaching staff, and consequently, its repercussions on educational quality.
