Abstract

The relationship between the normalization of gender-based violence among university students and patriarchal structures is evident in the internalization and reproduction of violent attitudes and behaviors through their socialization within common environments. To address this pervasive issue, it is imperative to critically examine and challenge the patriarchal frameworks that underpin the normalization of gender-based violence in this demographic. This necessitates the promotion of gender equality, the cultivation of values-based education, and the advocacy of non-violence. Furthermore, it requires the establishment of secure spaces where university students can critically appraise traditional gender norms and reconstruct more equitable and salubrious interpersonal relationships. The overarching objective of this research is to investigate and raise societal awareness concerning this critical issue. A bibliographic and field-based study was conducted, employing a descriptive research design and integrating an Analytical-Synthetic methodology. For the systematization, analysis of information, and interpretation of findings, a quantitative research approach was utilized. A standardized sample of 100 university students from the Universidad Técnica de Ambato participated in the study; these subjects were selected for inclusion in the sample independently of any other specific indicators or conditions. The empirical data obtained from this investigation conclusively demonstrate a direct and verifiable correlation between patriarchal structures and the normalization of gender-based violence. This finding facilitates a deeper comprehension of their reciprocal relationship and underscores the gravity of this multifaceted problem
