Abstract

The collapse of the funeral equipment in the city of Manta highlights the need to implement a new cemetery that covers the new health requirements and provides us with social appropriation. Due to the events of the COVID-19 pandemic, public cemeteries did not meet the demand for deaths and deprived many people of providing their relatives with a decent burial. When carrying out the investigation through field visits, we witnessed the conditions of the cemeteries and by having a closer relationship with the citizens, we soaked up the disagreements and inconveniences generated by these spaces; from its location, the neglect of aesthetics and hygiene, to the polluting impact on its surroundings and with its environment. So, if the conditions of traditional cemeteries are so overwhelming, the question to users would be: Why do we continue with the same burial customs? Is it feasible to continue burying corpses in coffins after the pandemic? while the questions to the municipal entities are: What measures will they take in this regard?, and When will we have public crematoria?
