Abstract

Currently, the cell phone is used to carry out various daily activities; young millennials, for their part, use it as a means of entertainment, communication and as a study tool. The excessive use of the cell phone generates the risk of suffering from nomophobia, this problem triggers multiple consequences, among them it causes anxiety due to not having mobile data, battery, Wi-Fi or signal on the phone. This research aimed to identify the level of nomophobia presented by university students at the Technical University of Ambato. The exploratory and descriptive study was carried out with 299 students between the ages of 18 and 26. The methodology applied was mixed, through the test (NMP-Q) Nomophobia Questionnaire. The main result of the test was that women present significant levels of nomophobia with 52.5%, men present a minimal difference with 47.4%. Coming to the conclusion that nomophobia is a danger that grows eminently over the years. On the other hand, focus groups were developed. The results reflected that more than half of the respondents present moderate and high levels of nomophobia; these results include students between the ages of 18 and 21. It was identified that cell phone use is replacing the affection of family members, which triggers considerable problems, generating anxiety, stress, social isolation, among other negative consequences
