Abstract

This study analyzes the process of adopting agile methodologies in traditional software development companies located in the province of Manabí, Ecuador. Its foundation lies in the growing need for organizations to optimize the quality, efficiency, and adaptability of their processes in response to the rapidly changing demands of the technological sector. The main objective was to design a good practice guide for the progressive and contextualized adoption of agile methodologies.

The research followed a quantitative, basic, and field-based approach, through the application of surveys to 19 software companies located in the cities with the greatest technological and organizational development in Manabí.

The results showed that Scrum is the most widely used methodology (50%), particularly in the areas of software development and project management, although its level of application remains partial (47.4%). Among the main benefits identified were improvements in software quality, internal communication, and customer satisfaction, while the primary obstacles were the lack of training, cultural resistance to change, and the absence of clearly defined roles.

Based on these findings, a proposed adoption framework was designed to strengthen the agile maturity of local companies, promoting a sustainable cultural shift and an orderly transition toward more flexible and collaborative practices. The research demonstrates that the adoption of agile methodologies, when adapted to the specific capacities and organizational culture of each company, contributes significantly to improving software development quality and advancing the digital transformation of the sector in Manabí.
