MORBIDITIES AND THEIR INCIDENCE IN ELDERLY RESIDENTS OF THE INSTITUTO ESTUPIÑÁN 2023 NURSING HOME

Abstract

This research focuses on the morbidities that the elderly population of the Instituto Estupiñán Nursing Home presents and how they represent a significant challenge to their quality of life. The objective of the research is to analyze epidemiological studies that allow the identification of the most prevalent morbidities in the older adults of the Nursing Home Instituto Estupiñán. For this purpose, a mixed and descriptive methodological design was used, which facilitated the exploration of the facts, causes and consequences of these morbidities in the elderly population. Through a detailed analysis of the medical records and the collection of data from a sample of 40 older adults, it was identified that the most prevalent diseases in this population are chronic non-communicable diseases, such as arterial hypertension, chronic respiratory diseases (COPD), and neurological, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal conditions. The literature review concluded that Ecuador, like other Latin American countries, is experiencing a progressive increase in population aging. In response to this problem, it was proposed to sensitize professionals from public and private institutions through infographics, which highlighted the importance of providing adequate medical care, respecting the rights of this population. This is proposed as a specific strategy for prevention and medical treatment, according to clinical needs, with the aim of improving the quality of life of older adults
