THE ROLE OF THE UNIVERSITY IN THE PREVENTION OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Abstract

Gender-based violence is a major social issue that affects various communities worldwide, and the university, as an educational institution and a trainer of citizens, plays a fundamental role in preventing this phenomenon through education, awareness, and the implementation of effective policies. The objective of this systematic review is to analyze the role of the university in the prevention of gender-based violence, identifying strategies, programs, and challenges in their implementation. The study was conducted through a systematic literature review using a qualitative approach in academic databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scielo, selecting studies published in the last five years that addressed the topic from an educational and institutional perspective. As an information collection technique, a systematization and categorization of the selected articles was carried out. The results show that universities have developed various initiatives, such as care protocols, awareness campaigns, and gender perspective training. However, challenges remain, including a lack of effective implementation, institutional resistance, and the need to integrate these approaches into curricula. Therefore, the university plays a key role in the prevention of gender-based violence, not only through formal education but also through its institutional culture and intervention policies. It is therefore essential to strengthen teacher training, ensure the enforcement of action protocols, and promote the active participation of the university community.
