Population aging is a global challenge, especially in contexts where family and community support is crucial for the well-being of older adults. The project "Envejeciendo Juntos," implemented in the Canton Paltas, province of Loja, Ecuador, seeks to address these needs through the Paltas 4 home care unit, research conducted with 40 users belonging to the project "Envejeciendo Juntos," in the canton Paltas, province of Loja, between February and July 2024, combines qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the lack of family support and its impact on the quality of life of older adults.
The results obtained show a significant lack of support from family members, evidenced by a lack of regular care and assistance during periods of illness, as well as feelings of loneliness among older adults. Factors identified include geographic distance, work burdens and lack of financial resources. The discussion highlights the importance of strengthening family and community support networks to improve the overall well-being of older adults.
The role of social work in this project is fundamental, as social promoters work directly with older adults and their families to identify needs, offer emotional support, and coordinate resources. Proposals include family education, access to community services, and strengthening of support networks, with the objective of promoting healthy and active aging.
