The social worker's intervention focuses on promoting family reintegration, offering emotional and psychological support, and raising community awareness about the importance of caring for the elderly. This study aimed to identify the forms of social worker intervention in response to the family abandonment of the elderly in Cantón Palanda during the first half of 2024, with the purpose of improving their well-being and quality of life. The research was conducted in Zamora Chinchipe between March and June, employing inductive-deductive, systemic analytical, and bibliographic scientific methods. The study focused on 80 elderly individuals selected for their ability to provide accurate information, who were surveyed to gather data. The results showed that most feel abandoned due to a lack of family support, reflecting a concerning emotional disconnection and neglect. Factors such as physical distance, changing family dynamics, and reduced attention to the needs of the elderly contribute to this phenomenon. It is concluded that abandoned elderly individuals face serious consequences for their physical and mental health, such as emotional deterioration, social isolation, and an increase in untreated chronic illnesses. The strategies implemented by social workers, including emotional support, access to resources, and the promotion of family reintegration, have improved their living conditions. However, it is essential to continue strengthening these interventions and promote a community-based approach in public policies to ensure the protection and well-being of the elderly.
