EFFECTIVENESS OF PROTECTION MEASURES AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN SIGCHOS CANTÓN

Abstract

In Ecuador, gender-based violence is a serious issue that affects the rights and opportunities of women. This reality is also present in the Sigchos canton, leading to the implementation of protective measures to ensure the safety of women victims of gender-based violence. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the protective measures implemented by the Cantonal Board of Rights Protection of Sigchos Canton during the year 2023, focusing on how they contribute to the restitution of the rights of affected women. A mixed-methods approach was used, including home visits and in-depth interviews with specific questionnaires to collect data on the experiences and perceptions of women regarding the effectiveness of these measures. The results show that the Cantonal Board of Rights Protection of Sigchos Canton has achieved high visibility through the media, making it easier for women victims to learn about their services. Additionally, it was identified that the main needs of the women are legal advice and immediate protection to face violence. Furthermore, the administrative protection measures issued by the CBPDC-S have been effective for many women, providing a safer environment and protecting them from further aggression. However, areas for improvement were identified, particularly in communication and coordination between the institutions responsible for addressing gender-based violence, to ensure a comprehensive and timely response to the needs of victims
