Background: This research is based on Participatory Action Research (PAR) and seeks to develop strategies in order to support a group of older adults in the Tarqui community, Manta. By promoting the active participation, the community members can help in supporting the mental health needs of this population. Objective: To design self-management strategies in collaboration with the community that promote mental health among older adults in Tarqui, Manta. Methodology: A qualitative approach and the PAR was used as the research framework. Data collection methods included semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and focus groups. The study involved 21 older adults, and the recorded audio data were transcribed and analyzed using Maslow’s hierarchy according to the satisfaction levels. Results: Findings were categorized according to Maslow’s pyramid. The unmet needs are the following: 1. Basic needs (Insufficient hydration points). 2. Safety concerns (Lack of security, clothing renewal, and first aid kit). 3. Social needs (Social isolation). 4. Emotional needs (Negative thoughts caused by the isolation). 5. Personal growth (Lack of creative stimulus and educational needs). Conclusions: The abovementioned strategies focus on addressing both partially met and completely unmet needs through current and future initiatives. The community will need to assess if the proposed strategies could be implemented, thereby improving their conditions in this community space, and repeat the PAR cycle to identify new needs and establish new strategies
