Evaluation of the levels of separation anxiety in children of the Jerome Bruner Educational Unit

Abstract

The main objective was to evaluate the levels of separation anxiety in a school and family context. The research, carried out at the Jerome Bruner Educational Unit in Manta, used a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, sectional and cross-sectional design. 30 children with separation anxiety were selected, evaluated through the Early Start Separation Anxiety Questionnaire (CASIT). The results indicated a significant prevalence of separation anxiety, manifested in emotional, physical, and dependency behaviors toward caregivers. Early intervention, emotional and behavioral support were presented as key strategies to improve children's emotional well-being and reduce dependency. The findings highlight the importance of personalizing interventions for each child and of involving parents and educators in the therapeutic process. In conclusion, the need for intervention programs aimed at reducing separation anxiety and promoting the emotional autonomy of children in the preschool stage is underlined
