Addiction to social networks and suicidal behavior in adolescents from Montecristi

Social networks are a means of communication that provide many benefits to adolescents, they often become so obsessive about being connected that they are unable to control its use, endangering their studies, jobs, and family and social relationships, resulting in cyberbullying. between peers and sexual cyberbullying that has sometimes led to suicide attempts. The objective of this work was to characterize the relationship between addiction to social networks and suicidal risk in adolescents of the "Fiscal Educational Unit October 23" of the city of Montecristi in the first period of the 2018-2019 school year using a A correlational approach and the techniques that contributed are the Social Media Addiction Test and the Suicidal Behavior Questionnaire in Adolescents, which allowed us to know the problem situation. The sample consisted of 60 adolescents chosen by means of a propositional sampling that were divided into case groups, composed of adolescents with low suicidal risk and a control group composed of adolescents with moderate suicidal risk. It was evidenced that the control group presented low and zero levels in relation to addiction to social networks, while the case group presented medium, high and moderate levels. It is concluded that addiction to social networks influences suicidal behavior because there are common risk factors such as family problems, stress, bullying and substance use.
