Performance of children with learning disabilities in test of intelligence and exploration of working memory in Manta

Abstract

Learning disabilities have become the leading cause of school failure. Its levels of international incidence are high. This makes it necessary to understand the elements that underlie its psychological manifestations. To comparatively analyze the performance of children with learning disabilities, and children with adequate school performance, in intelligence tests, and working memory exploration. A quantitative, descriptive-comparative study was carried out, with the participation of an experimental group (51 children with learning disabilities) and a control group (51 children with adequate school performance). Tests were applied for the evaluation of the intellectual performance and tests for the exploration of the storage capacity of the working memory. Statistical processing was performed with frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and dispersion, and a Student's t test. The performance of the experimental group participants in the applied tests shows significant statistical differences in relation to the control group. Children with learning disabilities show lower intellectual and working memory performance than children in the control group. This could explain some of the psychological symptoms of these children.
