Abstract

The indiscriminate capture of marine species can abruptly disrupt the food chain and cause multiple effects. All countries in the region are interested in properly managing fisheries resources and improving their regional food security. For this reason, it is important to establish control strategies or measures that can minimize or neutralize the effects of Chinese maritime expansion on the coasts of South American countries that are part of the Pacific basin, such as Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and Chile. This research presents an analytical-synthetic study of the problem, attempting to explain in a very didactic way the impacts on the marine ecosystems of the aforementioned countries. Furthermore, control strategies and measures are established up to the year 2026. All of this leads to the conservation and protection of jurisdictional maritime zones and the high seas, which are prone to uncontrolled depletion and which would jeopardize the very existence of these states.
